“Hooking Scrolls” – an online workshop by Lisanne Miller of W. Cushing Co. to be held over three Mondays on Oct. 31st, Nov. 7th, and Nov. 22nd. Registration is open first to members of Ottawa Olde Forge Rug Hooking. If spaces are still available, the workshop will be opened to non-members as of October 1st.

Ottawa Olde Forge Rug Hooking is pleased to offer its members an in-person workshop by Carol Shewan of Willow Creek Rug Hooking. The topic is ‘Grenfell Style’ hooking. Grenfell style hooking uses nylons instead of wool. The workshop will cover a bit of history of the Grenfell Mission and how it affected the lives of women in Atlantic Canada. Techniques best used when hooking with nylons or similar materials will be demonstrated. Participants have a choice of three original Grenfell patterns (as shown in the attached images). Date: Saturday, January 28, 2023 In case of bad weather, January 29 will be the back-up date. Where: Maki House, 19 Leeming Drive, Ottawa. Time: 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Fee: $121, to be paid to the instructor after registration. Fee includes instruction, pattern on linen, nylons to hook with, HST and instructor’s travel costs. Class size: 8 minimum, 15 maximum This is not a beginner class, however, as long as you have pulled a few loops you will be fine. Carol has been hooking for over 20 years and is a certified McGown and OHCG teacher. CHOICE OF PATTERN (to be indicated at time of registration): Participants have a choice of 3 different kits. All patterns are on traditional linen. — Grenfell Husky, a 12″ circular mat — Grenfell Polar Bears, a 10″x12″ mat — Grenfell Puffin, a 10″x12″ mat Interested members are requested to register as soon as possible (by email to: workshops@ottawarughooking.com), including your choice of pattern. Carol has to create the kits for us and has requested we let her know early. The deadline for registration is 15 December 2022. I encourage those interested to sign up sooner as we only have 15 spots and it gives Carol more time to prepare our patterns.
